Change in Statement Delivery for Retirement Plan Participants
Starting in Q1-2021, John Hancock is changing the way it delivers quarterly statements to the retirement plan participants. Participants will begin to automatically receive their quarterly statements online- a fast, secure and convenient way to access their quarterly statements from John Hancock.
Download the John Hancock Information Sheet
Five things that are important to know:
- If participants have previously opted out of online statement delivery, they will continue to receive paper statements.
- If participants have not actively made a delivery preference decision to receive paper statements for their Q1 2021 statement delivery, they will be opted into online only statements and will no longer receive statements in the mail. But, they can always request that their preference be changed back to mailed paper statements by going online or by calling the John Hancock call center.
- For all future online statements, participants will need to be registered online and have an email address on file, to receive an email notification when their quarterly statement is available.
- Newly enrolled participants will need to register online to view their statement and receive an email notification when their quarterly statement is available.
- Lastly, John Hancock will be sending a second notice to participants in late winter reminding them that their Q1 statement will be fulfilled electronically, and also to remind them how to change their delivery preference if they would like to continue to get statement via mail.
Reminder: Participants always have the option to continue to receive a mailed paper statement by visiting the website or by calling our Call Center.

Local 469 Honors Long-time Member Chalmer Shuff
“This has been the highlight of my life,” said Brother Chalmer “Chuck” Shuff after the Honor Drive to celebrate his service to his country and to UA Local 469.
Brother Shuff was scheduled to fly to Washington D.C. in March to be recognized for his WWII service by Honor Flight but the trip was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We decided to bring the celebration to him with an Honor Drive patriotic parade by his home to thank him for his service to his country and for his 70 years of service to Local 469. Brother Shuff was surprised and moved by the tribute from his Local 469 family, friends and community members.

Thank you to everyone who came out to thank Brother Shuff, including Glendale Fire Department, Veterans for Veterans motorcycle group, VFW riders and a volunteers from Honor Flight.

In the message he provides an update on affected jobs and members, expanded benefits, contract negotiations, office and training center closures, federal benefits, critical workers, relationships with contractors, concerns about job site safety, and the opportunities for Local 469 to remain strong in the coming months and years. H&W Trust Fund Improves Benefits During COVID-19 National Emergency
Brothers and Sisters:
The COVID-19 National Emergency affects all of us in one way or another. We are in this fight together.
To help Arizona Pipe Trades Health and Welfare Trust Fund participants understand how the Fund is improving benefits and access to care during this time, I have attached a participant notice. This notice will be mailed to your homes next week. DOWNLOAD NOTICE
The Fund will be covering the cost of all COVID-19 testing at 100%. The Fund will also cover all IN NETWORK office visits, urgent care visits, and emergency room visits specific to COVID-19 testing at 100%. As the attached notice indicates, please use Cigna Open Access Plus providers to protect you and our Fund from possible overcharges for these services.
The Trustees continue to review the benefits with the objective of protecting you from out of pocket expenses related to COVID-19 testing and office visits. We understand there are situations where your employer may require you to get a medical release if you show any COVID-19 symptoms or you may have come in contact with someone exposed to COVID-19.
In most cases, your physician will submit a bill to the Fund indicating this was a COVID-19 related visit. If you are eligible for benefits, the cost for that visit will be reimbursed at 100%. In some situations, your physician may not indicate the office visit was COVID-19 related. The Trustees have revised the Fund to cover these employer required visits and any testing associated with the visit at 100% as well. This will not always work as smoothly as we would like. There will be times when the physician may not indicate this is a COVID-19 related visit. When that happens, the Fund Office will work with you and your employer and make sure this is covered at 100%.
This is a very fluid situation and we are monitoring it on a daily basis. The Trustees have scheduled a meeting again next week. We will be discussing additional COVID-19 legislation that is being considered this week.
Thank you for your help during these challenging times.
Fraternally,
Aaron Butler

Statement from Business Manager Aaron Butler Regarding COVID-19
March 18, 2020
Brothers and Sisters:
As things progress with COVID-19, I wanted to reach out and let you all know what actions the hall is taking to protect our members:
- Effective today, we are kicking off our food bank for members that may be impacted or quarantined due to the virus. All NON-PERISHABLE donations should be dropped off at the Training Center loading dock and will be distributed from the same location as needs arise. Please donate anything you won’t need for the foreseeable future. Currently, baby formula is in short supply and we could use any that you may have. To donate to the 469 food bank, contact the Training Center at 602-269-8213 to schedule your drop-off during business hours. DISTRIBUTION TO THE MEMBERSHIP WON’T BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE BANK IS FILLED.
- The Local 469 “Just Fore Fun” Golf Tournament has been postponed. We are working on pinning down a date in the Fall to host it. If you have paid to participate and would like a refund, please contact Rick Hudson at extension #1017.
- At this point, the Local 469 Annual Fishing Tournament will proceed as planned unless the forest service shuts down.
- On a directive from the U.A. General President, ALL Union meetings and training classes have been suspended through the month of May.
- Intel is in the process of installing more of the smaller lunch tents onsite to reduce the amount of people in the same space at the same time. They will also be working expanded shifts to lessen congestion.
- Banner Hospitals will be taking temperatures at all entry points. If your temp exceeds 99.7 degrees Fahrenheit, you will be asked to stay home until you are fever-free for 48 hours.
The H&W Trustees are preparing for an emergency meeting to discuss the expansion of short-term disability terms for anyone forced to stay home from work. We will also be discussing allowing access to 401K hardship withdrawals for individuals affected by the virus. I will send an update e-mail once we have more information.
Please keep in mind that our top priority is to ensure our members continue to be allowed to work in a safe environment and provide for their families during these difficult times.
If you would like to respond to this, please send your e-mail to abutler@ualocal469.org
In Solidarity,
Aaron Butler

UA Local 469 Union Hall Remodel Starts Summer 2020
We’re excited to share the design for the UA Local 469 Union Hall expansion and remodeling project, slated to start in the summer of 2020.
The design honors our building’s rich history while also providing an additional 16,000 square feet of space to meet our current and future needs. The building, located on N. 24th Street near Osborne, was built in 1949 as a Safeway grocery store. UA Local 469 moved into the building in 1962. The new building will be home to the benefits, administrative, and organizing departments. It will also include flexible meeting and event space to accommodate the growing membership.
By bringing all of the departments under one roof, creating multi-use space for meetings and events, and updating the original building’s structural and mechanical elements, we will have a Hall that represents the quality of workmanship that Local 469 upholds, and also honors the legacy of our brothers and sisters.

Your Help Is Needed to Secure the Future of UA Apprenticeship Programs
ATTENTION JOURNEYWORKERS AND RETIREES!
PLEASE TAKE ACTION TODAY! The UA spends $250 million each year on training. In doing so, we’ve created the best workforce in the world of piping professionals. We’re Built on Excellence and that’s rooted in our apprenticeship training. We get the job done on time and on budget because of the level of skill our members bring to every job.
Now greedy anti-union contractors want to destroy our apprenticeship programs so they can cut corners and boost their own profits. They want the DOL to undermine every element of our apprenticeship programs.
WE CAN’T LET THAT HAPPEN!
Don’t let them be the loudest! Have your voices heard and stop the assault on our training programs.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Every UA member knows the importance of our apprenticeship programs and how they build the best tradespeople in the industry. BUT, greedy anti-union contractors want to destroy them! See attached for more information and HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD BY the DOL NO LATER THAN AUGUST 26TH!

Local 469 members Larry Savage, Paul Delaware, Michael Savage, Gary Nez, and Major Tso spent five days in the remote high-desert area installing plumbing systems and providing relief to families who had to travel long distances to bring bottled water into their homes, and had to heat water on wood-burning stoves.

Welcome to the Newly Redesigned Website for UA Local 469!
The leadership and members of UA Local 469 would like to welcome you to our newly redesigned website. Within our site you can find out a great deal of information about our local and international union. Unions are an essential part of a strong democracy and play a crucial role in Americas public and community life. Not only do they give workers a voice on the job and help negotiate fair benefits and wages for their members, but they also use their political and economic resources to raise the floor for everyone who works for a living.
